Lipari for Father’s Day

Sixth stop on the Lipari bloghop is to Leigh Laurel Studios whose inspiration has come from her Dad’s enjoyment of crosswords – great idea! It is also great to see the Lipari Fat Eighths Pack with the background fabrics Leigh chose:

Don’t you want to just dive into this pile?

I added four neutral Oakshott fabrics to help the colors pop, and chose Jay McCarroll’s Center City fabric by Free Spirit as the backing — a sort of silly nod to the years my spent as an architect. It’s a simple quilt of 5″ squares, so it’s a great project for beginning quilters.LeighLaurelCrossword

It was hard to stop quilting, but I’m glad I quit when I did. It’s truly soft and the fabric is the star.

Leigh’s blog is also a tutorial.

Quilty Habit’s Reflections

Jessica of Quilty Habit, for her third design with Oakshott fabrics (and the fifth in the Lipari Blogshop hosted by Lily’s Quilts) , has produced:

“Reflection” … a play on repeating blocks, combined with negative space and a diagonal layout. Every block is in the same place on either side of the quilt, and each side is quilted identically.

This strong modern quilt uses Lipari Stromboli for the back, volcanic!

For full details of Jessica’s methods and approach do visit her blog post and tutorial;

Crepuscular bloghop

The Little Red Hen has combined the Lipari Fat Eighths pack with 18 colours from a Colourshott 31-57 Fat Eighths pack – which have given the project quite a ‘wow’ colour spectrum:

“You really must see this fabric in person to fully appreciate its beauty. It is very difficult to capture with a camera.”

and if you go to the blog you’ll see some great close-ups of the quilting and pattern.

Don’t let the grass grow

It was a trip to Ireland – the Emerald Isle – that inspired Johnny Cash’s song Forty Shades of Green. From subtle teals to more acidic shades, our Offers of the Week depict the sheer breadth of greens in nature.
You can SAVE 15% when you order these greens before Thursday 19 May, 9am UK time

Lipari bloghop: 2

A great visual effect with this mini quilt called Prism Plant Pot from Quilts From the Attic. Nick is a truly creative fan of Oakshott fabrics and we love his designs. He says this one was arrived at:

“After much thought and lots of fabric petting”

Quilts From The Attic-mini

The blogpost will fill you with confidence to carry out paper piecing, blocking, quilting; and gives you all measurements and fabric info you’ll need to create this tangential piece.

All the fabrics were used out of the Lipari Fat Eighths pack for the blocks, but Nick kept back the Milazzo and Pollara for the background and side and acquired some extra Scandinavia Uppsala for the top.

He has certainly brought out the jewel-like qualities of this fabric collection.

What’s in a name?

Wow! Elizabeth Green sent this in as a thank you “for prompt dispatch of backing fabrics” [you’re welcome!] with the caveat that it is only the quilt top and a photo on a iPad:

“hand quilting it will change the colours again by adding a slight 3D effect – that will take months to complete, I usually reckon a year from start to finish for a bed quilt.”

We still think it is fantastic and love the backstory:

“The variation in colour is unbelievable. Having got here by accident as it were I have now decided to make this one truly reversible although still keeping to the original idea of hand quilting in the ditch to carry the log cabin design through. “

Elizabeth is still to name it and is mulling through ‘Firestorm’ or ‘Petra’ or ‘Firecrest’ or ‘Redstart’. She is hoping to have completed it in time for her group’s (Romsey Quilters) exhibition in 2017. The title of which is “Mock not ambition” when the entries will be seen in Romsey Abbey, suspended high between the nave arches. Sounds incredible.

We are really looking forward to the next instalment and will wish Elizabeth luck then!
