Knotted Cotton’s Anemones

Just a quick catch-up with our friend Catherine at Knotted Cotton; she used Oakshott purples as a reflection of her love of flowers. Have look at her full story on:

Four in Art 3: Colour/Purple Passion – “Anemones”

I used shot cotton for the flowers, because it has a lovely sheen and catches the light beautifully although it is difficult to capture the full glory of it in a photograph.  The different colours in the warp and weft make it far less ‘flat’ than a standard coloured fabric.

Shott up

The backbone of our collections, the Colourshott range, has gone even more ‘premier’ with a slightly heavier weave in a 54″ width and with an extra 27 colours! We are planning to re-introduce the fantastic Colourbox (containing all 57 colours) for Christmas. Fat Quarterly have had a sneak preview and are running a competition. www.liveacolorfullife.net have … Continue reading Shott up

Volcanic Vesuvius

The eighth and final stop in our Lipari blogshop (hosted by Lily’s Quilts) comes from Kitty Wilkin, intrepid Night Quilter in Maine, USA. She got really absorbed by Oakshott’s fabric story and so decided to go with the volcanic inspiration for her Vesuvius quilt. This was my first time working with Oakshott fabrics, and they are so … Continue reading Volcanic Vesuvius

Memories in Aruba

What a fantastic way to show off Oakshott’s trademark shot cotton weave using a traditional block and an Aruba Fat Quarter Pack. Rita Hodge of RedPepperQuilts chose this block because  ‘the directional piecing creates a beautiful luminous, iridescent effect.’ The quilt’s finished size is 60 inches/1.5 metres square and the pattern is available from RedPepperQuilts Etsy Store and Pattern Store.

Steps from Chess on the Steps

It is always exciting to the creative spirit in us to see how Oakshott shot cottons inspire the development of a pattern. The wonderful Krista Hennebury has supplied us with the chance to show such a development in glorious technicolor. In the beginning was a pack of 10 Colourshotts that turned into Chess on the Steps … Continue reading Steps from Chess on the Steps

Is the quilting world ready for Scandinavia?

Scandinavia is the name of Oakshott Fabrics’ newest shot cotton collection.

Scandinavia range_ruched1

The inspiration for this palette of eight calm, muted tones of vaporous blues, soft greys, milky whites and  woody shades comes from the clean, bright, airy colours of stylish Scandinavian interiors and the ethereal quality of northern winter light.

We’ve had great fun drawing up a Scandinavia board on Pinterest full of images that echo these luminous colours.

To celebrate the launch of Scandinavia Leanne Chahley  designed this beautiful  quilt/wallhanging (given a sneak preview at QuiltCon in Texas) called Hint:

USE-Hint-front

We love the graphic shapes and the texture the quilting gives the fabrics.

The kit for Hint is available in two sizes (40″ x 40″ / 102 cm x 102 cm or 84″x 84″ / 213 cm x 213 cm) complete with the fabric (enough for front and back) and a pattern booklet with template.

We hope you enjoy banishing the winter doldrums with these luscious Nordic lights.

Lakes challenge

Thanks Jessica of Quilty Habit for your poetic words about Lakes, “shimmery wonderfulness” for a start! Also thanks for posting such great instructions for a gorgeous table runner she designed as part of Sew Mama Sew‘s Oakshott Challenge (highlights being released 22-25 October). Shot cottons change colors in the light – you have to see … Continue reading Lakes challenge
