Thanks to Brigitte Gillespie for sending us a photo of her ‘leftovers’! Otherwise known as an Itsy-Bits and Wonky Strips Lap Quilt (quote also in French, see below!).

Lap Quilt
Brigitte Gillespie’s Lap Quilt

This is the background from Brigitte:

“I started it while demonstrating how to use up small scraps at our annual fabric sale in Farnham [Surrey, UK] last January. I used the leftovers from a quilt made with the Oakshott fabrics and the sashing is more leftovers from another quilt. The border and the backing is Jinny Beyer fabric, which I bought from the reduced range at Midsomer Quilting.

It is my fifth lap quilt made with scraps. I learnt the technique, called Itsy-Bits and Wonky Strips, from Paula Doyle when she came to visit my local group a few years ago. In this lap quilt, I only used straight strips which gives it a more architectural look. It is longarm quilted on my Millenium APQS with a variegated thread (Rainbows by Superior Threads).

I love the Oakshott range of fabrics as they catch the light and the quilting gives them another beautiful dimension.”
