Steps from Chess on the Steps

“The cruise was called Modern Stitch at Sea. I taught two workshops on the ship to 18 students, all traditionally-based quilters looking to expand their modern quilting experience and explore improvisational work. Many are members of the Vancouver and Victoria (British Columbia) Modern Quilt Guilds.  Everyone brought their own machines and we took over one of the larger conference rooms on the ship, the Celebrity Infinity.  Over the 7-night cruise, we were able to sew during “at sea” days and one night the ship’s electrician even allowed us to work until midnight on our projects.  Other passengers on the ship would take a wrong turn down the hallway and end up on our classroom, amazed that all of this sewing was going on – we had many very impressed visitors and word got out, so several quilters came to see what we were up to.  On our last day cruising back down the inside passage, several of us sat up on the sunny top deck stitching our memory hoops while watching for whales. We were lucky to spot several Orcas!”

  1. Thanks so much for posting our quilts! We had a fabulous time on the cruise and working with your lovely fabrics to create my Fireweed quilt was a real treat!
In addition to being a great teacher Krista ensured we had everything we needed to stitch at sea including lovely door prizes and swag bags!
The stitchery that she designed will be a lasting memento of a wonderful time spent with friends old and new on the beautiful coasts of BC and Alaska!
