Poppyprint at large

Krista Hennebury of Poppyprint has been enjoying some island time, Vancouver way, spreading the word of her improv technique and:

I also finished up this special table runner for days that my stitch group, the Gathered Threads, come over! I used the same pattern as my Variegated Threads quilt (available in my Craftsy shop here) except that I sewed 7 spools side by side. I love it on my rustic pine dining table; the Oakshott fabrics are so vibrant. I’ll be teaching this as a workshop this coming weekend for the Blue Mountain Quilter’s Guild and I can’t wait to see how the students like working with their custom Oakshott kits!30684072816_43560db636

Planned Improv

If you subscribe to Simply Moderne and read magazine issue 5 you might have spotted the scrumptious new design by Krista Hennebury (she of Chess on the Steps and Improv Under the Influence fame) using ALL the Oakshott Colourshott range.

We are lucky enough to be selling the kit for this beauty, called Variegated Threads:

and if you need any more inspiration then have a read of Krista’s blog on the development of this piece – and how flexible it is (make a runner, make it bigger and smaller, have fun with the background). Most of all, it is a great introduction to improv techniques.

If you go to the Festival of Quilts on 11-14 August at the NEC, you’ll be able to actually see it up close on stand G21 (with Pinwheels).

More Steps (with Chess!)

Krista Hennebury (poppyprintcreates.blogspot), who shared her photos of an Arctic cruiseworkshop using her Chess on the Steps and Fireweed designs, has sent us some pics of a workshop in Whistler, Canada – pan to shots of mountain peaks disappearing mistily into the distant miles; oops, sorry, back to indoors …

Krista was working with the Whistler Quilter’s Guild in British Columbia and says:

all of my students loved the Colourshotts! Not everyone bought kits, some used their own fabric, but here are some photos for you!

Steps from Chess on the Steps

It is always exciting to the creative spirit in us to see how Oakshott shot cottons inspire the development of a pattern. The wonderful Krista Hennebury has supplied us with the chance to show such a development in glorious technicolor.

2014-10ChessOnTheSteps22014-10ChessOnTheSteps smallIn the beginning was a pack of 10 Colourshotts that turned into Chess on the Steps (available as a quilt kit):

Then came an Alaskan cruise and 18 quilters and Krista’s Improv Under the Influence technique class and a chance to play with one of four Alaskan-themed colourways.
